Danae Ford, Psychologist

BPsychSci, MPsych(Ed&Dev), GradDipTeaching(Primary)

I am a registered psychologist providing therapeutic interventions, counselling, and assessment services to children, adolescents, and adults at MindSpring Psychology Centre.

I have extensive experience working with children, families, and young people across a range of settings, including schools (i.e. both primary and secondary) as a Guidance Counsellor (i.e. Brisbane Catholic Education) and practitioner in private practice.  My experience is primarily with mental health difficulties (e.g., anxiety and depression), social-emotional difficulties (e.g. anger, low confidence and poor self-esteem), stress, adjustment problems (e.g. transitioning to new school), learning difficulties, and developmental delays (e.g. social skills, emotional regulation, and cognitive functioning).

I also have considerable experience administering and interpreting a wide range of psychoeducational assessments (e.g. cognitive, behavioural or academic) in order to identify barriers to learning.  I have a strong interest in learning and provide comprehensive reports and recommendations to educational and/or occupational settings that enable individuals or their teachers to make adjustments based on strengths and compensating for difficulties.

My experience and training has enabled me to see the importance of using a collaborative approach to better understand client needs.  I am passionate about consulting with relevant stakeholders to advocate for my clients.  I have a warm, empathic, light hearted, and comforting approach that enables me to develop strong therapeutic relationships.  I work hard to ensure I collaborate with my clients on goals, so I can use the most relevant evidence based strategies. I use an integrative approach based on individual needs through combining a range of interventions, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Play Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Attachment/Relationship Informed Therapy.

My training was completed at Queensland University of Technology, where I graduated from Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental).  I obtained a Bachelor of Psychological Science from the University of Queensland and recently completed a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning (Primary) with the University of Southern Queensland.
